LiveBlog: BOS@NYY 8/6/09 (Fourth Inning)

7:24 Derek Jeter can still play shortstop, folks. Of course, Lowell still ends up with an infield hit, but we can’t actually remember the last time we saw any shortstop range that far, especially a really really old one.  Stellar footwork: apparently he made some adjustments in the off season.

7:26 Casey Kotchman just hit the laziest homerun, anyone’s ever seen in their lives.  Even he can’t be bothered to get too excited, since he was ridiculously under it.  Windtunnel in action! 3-1 Sox.

7:28 Lowrie looks bad against Chamberlain.  He’s only 0-2 against him going into this game, but he’s now K’d twice.

7:30 with 2 outs, Chamberlain has to deal with Pedroia again: he’s now 8-14 with 3 doubles and a homer off the pitcher, but he’s retired this time.

7:33 Francona and UPH have a mindmeld going on.  Lowrie is pulled in favor of Nick Green at short–possibly a reaggrivation of the wrist injury.   Posada hits a solid double to lead off the bottom of the fourth.  Cano would have had a triple there.  (Carl Crawford would be all the way around to first base.)

7:38 A quick Cano single up the middle, and Posada scores this time. Good hustle by Smoltz, who fell over, and it’s 3-2 Sox with no outs and a man on first.

7:43 Cabrera takes Smoltz out of the park…it was really only a matter of time. 5-3 Yanks.

7:48 inning is keep going: Smoltz has lost the strike zone.  Damon singles.

7:50 JD Drew gives up a double. Yup, you read that right. Texeira is now at second, still one out.  They’ll walk ARod intentionally.  Pitching change gives Smoltz his shortest start of the year (he had a rain-shortened outing of 4 full versus the Orioles earlier this year.)

7:54 Billy  Traber, who was once a Yankee–and before that, a Met–is in to pitch.  He was called up yesterday from Pawtucket, the Red Sox AAA affilliate.   A fielder’s choice means Damon scores, but good play by the Sox fielders.  6-3 Yankees.  Could easily have been a double play, but tie goes to the runner, even if that runner is Hideki Matsui.

7:59 Posada’s officially redeemed himself by breaking it open with a 3 run shot.  9-3 Yankees.  Cano singles to left.

8:01 Yankees fans want you to know that “BOS-TON SUCKS!!” (repeat ad nauseum)  Freakin’ braintrust in that stadium, we’re telling you.   Though in their defense, possibly they’re all drunk–it’s only the fourth, sure, but it’s been TWO DAMN HOURS.

8:06 it’s been 34 minutes and counting since Chamberlain threw a pitch. At least if he blows up, this’ll get interesting…

8:08 OK, well that’s over. Moving on.
